Guidelines for Using Facebook

  1. Discuss strategy for using Facebook with chapter officers and advisors.
    • Have a plan.
    • Start a group and decide on group manager(s).
  2. Include 'Tau Beta Pi' and your chapter/university in the Group Name.
  3. Group Type should be "Student Groups; Clubs & Societies."
  4. Be sure to keep your description current and meaningful.
  5. Give location of group.
  6. When uploading a picture for the group, be sure the image is approved, (if a Tau Beta Pi image), and not offensive.
  7. It is important to decide whether the group will be 'open' or 'closed.'
    • If the group is 'open' periodic checking/verification/purging, of group members will be necessary.
    • If 'closed' manager of group will need to be prompt in checking and approving/denying membership into the group.
  8. You can invite current members of your chapter to join the group.
  9. Do not invite friends that are not members and do not plan on becoming candidates to join.
  10. Facebook (& other social media) is a very useful communication tool and a great resource for reaching out to Tau Beta Pi candidates. As with everything you do, remember that you are representing the 500,000-plus members of Tau Beta Pi. Integrity & Excellence in Engineering...
