After contacting your eligible candidates, the chapter must decide who they will elect to membership. The list should be voted on by the chapter membership and submitted to HQ as the Report of Election. This report must be submitted with each electee's online catalog card (which should be completed by electee) and APPROVAL RECEIVED BEFORE you hold initiation.
Contact HQ if you have not received approval at least two days in advance. DO NOT INITIATE anyone that is not on the approved election report. Online catalog cards should be submitted before initiation; HQ orders keys and certificates from the online card. If you want keys and certificates for initiation, plan to submit at least three weeks before initiation.
After your approved initiation, submit the Report of Final Action indicating who was initiated. Please have each initiate print and sign their name in the roll book. Email a scanned copy or mail a copy of your rollbook signatures and submit your initiation fees. All three of these items are due two weeks after your initiation.
If you have any questions about initiation, the membership process, or need an extension, contact or at 865/546-4578.
Check the website for information about filing this IMPORTANT form with the IRS. There are serious consequences for failure to do so.
Applications for Fellowships will open December 8. Any member planning full-time graduate study during the 2019-20 academic year is encouraged to apply by February 1; the stipend is $10,000. Encourage your new members to apply online.
Distinguished Alumnus nominations are due by February 1. The Distinguished Alumnus Award has been presented to 26 outstanding Tau Bates since 1997. Profiles about recent winners appear can be found here, along with a detailed explanation of the program, and the nomination form. Please ask your advisors and dean for the name of a potential alumnus to nominate before February 1.
Nominations for Outstanding Advisors are due by April 1. The Outstanding Advisor Award recognizes superior performance among Tau Beta Pi collegiate chapter advisors. Any chapter may nominate one Advisor for the award. See past winners here and read the information sheet.
The resources of Tau Beta Pi's Student Loan Fund are available to members who otherwise would be without sufficient money to remain in college and complete their courses. Loans of $25 to $2,500 are made for up to three years, and the interest rate is six percent per year on the unpaid balance beginning from the time the loan is made. (After three years the interest accrues at 10 percent.)
Loans are also available to new members for the amount of the initiation fee. No candidate should decline membership because of his or her inability to pay the initiation fee. Notes must be co-signed by financially independent persons, such as a parent. Application forms are available here.
Join your fellow Tau Bates in making Pi Day an international event for the Association. You are encouraged to host events with your chapter on Pi Day and to proudly wear your TBP apparel (available from the online store). If Pi Day is during your school's spring break, we encourage you to host events throughout the month. We want to know what activities your chapter has planned so we can share this information with others in your geographic area. Learn more.
Tau Beta Pi will once again begin charging chapters for shipping costs incurred for initiate keys and certificates. The Association has covered these costs in recent years with the current initiation fee. Due to the rising costs of shipping and handling for these items, and with no subsequent initiation fee increase, Tau Beta Pi will be charging, at cost, shipping for each of the items. These charges will begin appearing on chapter statements beginning in October for the Fall 2018 initiation period.
Due to recent state sales tax rule changes, our vendor of keys for initiates has been forced to charge sales tax on keys. This affects over 40 states and corresponding chapters. We are currently working with the vendor and others to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. Beginning in October, sales taxes for shipments of initiate keys will be passed along to the corresponding chapter. Upon a successful resolution, these charges will be reversed. More information will be available in the coming weeks. with questions.
All requests for chapter graduation regalia should be placed through the Chapter Supplies area of the Tau Beta Pi Store. Please order as early as possible and allow a minimum of 2-3 weeks for processing and shipping. As a reminder, requested regalia will be held until any old outstanding chapter balances are paid in full.
The Image & Marketing Committee at the 2018 Convention determined that Instagram can be an effective way to employ social media given consistent implementation through hashtags, stories, and posts.
Have your collegiate chapter create its own Instagram account using the following naming: tbp_school_acronym. Then follow the Association's Instagram account. We need you to post your content to get this up and running. Also, looking to give a big boost to Tau Beta Pi Day (March 14, 2019).
