The Tau Beta Pi Association Scholarship Program was established in 1998 with five awards named in honor of former Secretary-Treasurer Emeritus R.H. Nagel. In 13 years, awards of $2,000 each have been made to 1,116 Scholars (identified above) for their senior year of full-time engineering study.
During 1998-99, the Society received gifts totaling $200,000 from Charles R. Dodson,
MD B '30. Investment earnings from the Dodson Scholarship/Fellowship Fund support awards intended particularly for members of Maryland Beta. In 1999, $40,000 was contributed by Vincent A. Stabile,
NY L '40, to endow a Stabile Scholarship in perpetuity. The Stabile Fund was aided by gifts of $3,590,000 in 2007-08 from the Vincent A. Stabile Foundation.
During 2000-02, $4,358,000 was bequeathed by L.E. Record,
KS A '29, to endow Record Scholarships in perpetuity. In 2003, a bequest of $135,000 from A.C. Scribner,
NY G '29, endowed Scribner Scholarships. In 2005, a bequest of $65,000 from H.M. Alford,
MS A '27, endowed Alford Scholarships. In 2006, a bequest of $50,000 from E.E. Althouse,
PA A '26, endowed Althouse Scholarships. In 2007, a bequest of $72, 000 from R.A. Curtis, OH A '64, endowed Curtis Scholarships. C.E. Banner,
OH G '47, left $25,000 to the TBP Scholarship Fund in 2008.
Since 1999, 13 awards named for Elsa and Peter Soderberg,
CT A '68, have been given. Ruth M. and Cleveland L. Campbell ,
IN A '47, contributed 22 Campbell Scholarships since 2001. An Anonymous donor sponsored 10 awards beginning in 2007. Ten awards were named for Albert H. Winkler, AZ B '75, who bequeathed a gift in 2004. Six Mentor Scholarships were given by J.P. Tarwater, MO B '51, in admiration of the 1926-46 automobile industry. One Spirit of Apollo Scholarship has been given by a donor to honor the legacy of the U.S. NASA Apollo program.

Alabama Power Foundation, Inc., made a gift of $25,000 in 1995 to endow awards, the first of which was given in 2000. GEICO has sponsored 14 Scholars, Alabama Power Company and Fluor nine each, General Motors six, the Bose Foundation three, Duke Energy two, and Merck & Company supported one.
Since 1996 Tau Beta Pi has participated in the scholarship program of the Society of Automotive Engineers--sponsoring a total of 65 Tau Beta Pi Scholarships of $1,000 each to entering engineering freshmen. During 1988-95, the Society awarded 24 Tau Beta Pi Scholarships of $1,000 each to first-year engineering students in a National Society of Professional Engineers program.
